Learn to become a competent birth worker/doula in infant and maternal care. Prepare for certification as practicing professional doulas in the state of Virginia. This comprehensive training also qualifies birthworkers/doulas to practice internationally. Emphasis is placed on providing a common core of knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences to prospective birthworkers/doulas in an effort to support an understanding of valuable knowledge of the profession. Cultural sensitivity, health equity, and contemporary trends and issues related to planning and implementing a professional doula practice will be included. This training prepares individuals to become culturally conscious, competent, caring, and effective professionals.
